Epic Cycling Tour Rolls Through Trent August 12

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Media, Community Invited to Join Charity BBQ Lunch

Friday, August 8, 2008, Peterborough

Trent University alumnus Vin Heney and his friend Greg Mailloux are cycling 8,000 km across Canada this summer in an effort to raise $80,000 for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada.

Their journey is entitled Powered by Community and involves stops in several communities along the way to participate in fundraising events and build awareness about these life-changing diseases that affect more than 200,000 Canadians. So far, the pair has raised more than $28,000.

As a proud sponsor of Powered by Community, Alumni Affairs at Trent University will be hosting a charity BBQ in honour of these intrepid cyclists when they arrive in Peterborough on Tuesday, August 12 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Alumni House. For a minimum $5 donation, guests will receive their choice of a burger, hot dog or veggie burger, and a drink and bag of chips. All proceeds will support the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada.

Trent staff, faculty, students, alumni and members of the local community are invited to attend. An RSVP is requested to ensure sufficient supplies; to do so, please contact the Alumni Office by emailing alumni@trentu.ca or by calling 748-1573, option 1.
