Geography Department at Trent University Prepares to Celebrate 40th Anniversary

Reunion and Celebrations Planned for Head of the Trent Weekend October 3 & 4

Wednesday, June 18, 2008, Peterborough

The Department of Geography at Trent University will be marking its 40th anniversary in 2008 with a weekend full of celebrations during the Head of the Trent on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4.

All Geography students, alumni, friends and family are invited to the reunion events, which include receptions, a BBQ and a Departmental open house. Past and present faculty and staff members of the Department will be present.

Schedule of Reunion Events:

Friday, October 3, 2008

  • 6:30 p.m. – Reception at the home of Jill and Professor Emeritus Peter Adams

Saturday, October 4, 2008

  • 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Open House, with exhibits in the Department of Geography, located in the Environmental Science Building, east bank of Symons campus, Trent University
  • 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Gathering at Alumni BBQ, Alumni House, north end Champlain College
  • 4.30 p.m. – Geography Reception, Alumni House

A commemorative book, entitled Geography at Trent: The First Forty Years, The Illustrated Edition, is being created for the occasion with contributions from several past and current faculty members including Peter Adams, Al Brunger, Miles Ecclestone, Steve Gardiner, Fred Helleiner, Marilyn Miller and Helen Thompson. Described as “a giant yearbook”, it will feature text, photos and cartoons covering each of the Department’s 40 years. In addition, the Geography Department will be marking its anniversary by producing a third edition of its very successful local book, Peterborough and the Kawarthas, edited by Peter Adams and Colin Taylor. Both books will be available during the reunion weekend.
