Community Invited to Free Public Forum on Impacts of Local Research on March 28

“Knowledge in Action” to Feature Keynote Address by Gord Evans, CEO of Workforce Development Board

Tuesday, March 25, 2008, Peterborough

The Trent Centre for Community-Based Education (TCCBE) invites the community to attend “Knowledge in Action: A Forum about Research in our Local Community” on Friday, March 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Peterborough Lion’s Centre.

This event will focus on the themes of public education and outreach, environment and ecology, diversity and social justice. It is designed to bring together student researchers, community hosts and academic supervisors; other researchers; policy makers; educators; interested citizens, organizations and businesses in the Peterborough and County region.

Highlights of the event include:

  • PRE-FORUM WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS
    Showcasing Your Community-Based Experience: Resumes, Interviews and Other Opportunities
  • PANEL & PLENARY
    “Peaks & Valleys: Tales from Journeys in Community-Based Research”
  • Join in the sharing of stories about setbacks and successes in planning and implementing local research, and about some of the immediate and longer-term impacts of that work.
  • RESEARCH SHOW & SHARE
    Informal roundtable discussions on the three important issues streams in Peterborough and the County:
    • Public Education and Outreach
    • Environment and Ecology
    • Diversity & Social Justice
  • KEYNOTE ADDRESS
    Gord Evans, Chief Executive Officer, Workforce Development Board
  • POST-FORUM WORKSHOP FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS (1:30-2pm)
    “Getting Started for First-Time Hosts: How to Meet Organizational Needs through Community-Based Education”

The forum is being hosted by the TCCBE in partnership with the Peterborough Social Planning Council, the Peterborough Family Resource Centre, Kawartha Heritage Conservancy, Peterborough Green-Up, Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) Peterborough, Trent University Career Centre, Trent/Fleming School of Nursing, the Workforce Development Board, and Trent University.
