Great Race at Trent Today

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Time-Honoured Trent Tradition Begins at 3:00 p.m. at Traill College

Friday, September 8, 2006, Peterborough

As part of Introductory Seminar Week (ISW) activities, the Great Race, a time-honoured Trent tradition, will be held today, starting at 3:00 p.m. at Catharine Parr Traill College.

This annual giant relay race is a competition between first-year students representing all of the colleges at Trent. This year, the race is being held across the city as students make their way from the Traill College campus to the Symons campus by biking or jogging. Students will be confronted with various “challenges” at each of the colleges and stops along the race.

Once students reach the Symons campus, they will be directed to Otonabee College before they move on to the front lawn in front of Gzowski College. From there, students will run to the Boat House, located on the East Bank, and then canoe across the river to the dock at the Athletics Complex. They will disembark here and run to Champlain College and the office of the Trent Central Student Association. The next stop is the lawn in front of Lady Eaton College, after which they make their way to the main athletics field and complete the race.

During the race, all first-year students who are not competing will be participating in a Cheer-Off, to be held on the Bata Library podium. Following the cheer-off, the crowd will move to the spectator area on the Main Field to watch the end of the race.
