Trent Athletes of the Week

Trent University is proud to announce that Pete Van Rooijen is the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Male Athlete of the Week for the week of October 4th. Peter is a member of the Trent Rowing team, and earned gold in the heavyweight men's single, and a bronze in the heavyweight men's four at the Head of the Trent Rowing Regatta, Saturday, October 2nd. Peter hails from Brockville, Ontario and is a 4th year Business student.

Trent University is proud to announce that Chantal Gagne is the RILEY'S JUNCTION Female Athlete of the Week for the week of October 4th. Chantal is a freshman on the Trent Cross Country team and finished in 5th place in the Fleming Invitational, Saturday, October 2nd.. Chantal hails from Iroquois Falls, Ontario and is a 1st year Nursing student.

Head of the Trent-Rowing

Peterborough, ON - The Trent University rowing team hosted the 34th annual Head of the Trent Rowing regatta, Saturday, October 2nd. Leading the way for Trent was Peter Van Rooijen, with a gold in the heavyweight men's single. Later in the day Peter teamed up with Mark Basterfield, Edward Rushton, Christian Tuters, and Coxie Nate Splinter to win bronze in the heavyweight coxed men's 4. The Trent men's lightweight four boat also brought home the bronze.

On the women's side the heavyweight women's four boat finished in fourth place, while the heavyweight eight boat matched their result with a fourth place finish of their own.

Trent Swimming

Peterborough, ON- The Trent University opened the 2004 OUA season with a home meet during the Head of the Trent weekend, October 2nd. Freshman Scott Takala led the way as he set a new school record in the 400m freestyle(4:34.60). Takala also finished in 2nd place in the 200m free(2:24.36). Teammate Scott Farrow won the 100m free(1:03.52), as well as the 50m fly(26.68), also winning gold for Trent was Alex Babaris in the 50m back(1:04.78).

Leading the way for the women was freshman Laura Martin with a silver in the 50m breast(38.78), and a bronze in the 100m breast(1:23.73).
