Nirosha Krishamoorthy

Nirosha Krishamoorthy '11, B.Sc. Honours, Psychology, Malaysia

Nirosha had much more to adjust to in her first year at University than most. Originally from Malaysia, Nirosha moved to a new country for the opportunity to pursue her interest in psychology at Trent’s Durham campus. Leadership opportunities, mentor experience and enduring friendships made her glad she came.

Now armed with a degree, Nirosha is ready to face the world with communication skills, ethical decision-making and analytical abilities demanded by real-world employers. “When I came to Trent University in Canada, I was amazed by the psychology courses and programs that Trent had for all the students,” said Nirosha. “Attaining a high quality education is simply a ticket to a bright future. Trent has taught, trained, and guided me in such a way that I can maximize my potential fully and reach my macro and micro life goals.

Outside of the classroom Nirosha served as an avid volunteer within the Trent University Durham community. She raised money through bake sales and fashion shows for Trent’s production of Vagina Monologues that brings awareness to violence against women. She also logged many hours as a devoted academic mentor through the Trent Durham’s peer mentor program. As she academically and socially supported undergraduate students Nirosha discovered her own personal growth and a rewarding sense of satisfaction. Looking back on her volunteer experiences Nirosha said, “I’ve had an opportunity to enhance my personal development every semester. In other words, every semester turns out to be a better one than the last.”

She feels that Trent University Durham offers a healthy balance of both social and academic environments featuring an encouraging and embracing community. Small class sizes enabled close interaction with professors. In addition to educational instruction they also provided Nirosha guidance for her future professional plans.

After graduation she would love to stay in Canada and work for a year before continuing with graduate studies. She has also been working part-time with a clinical psychologist while attending Trent full-time.

Trent University Durham produces multi-talented, highly-skilled students and most importantly promising leaders that are ready to take on the challenges of the world,” stated Nirosha. “It is a most suitable institution for any international student who wishes to transform their career and education dreams into reality simply because of its student-oriented characteristics and resources.
