2014 Graduate Profiles

Jennifer Morgan

Jennifer Morgan ’10, Honours, B.Sc., Chemistry, Mathematics, Milton, ON

Jennifer Morgan wants to provide solutions to evolving industrial environmental concerns. She was always intrigued by math and science, but after taking Chemistry and Mathematics courses at Trent, she saw a new career path exploring the potential vast implications of 'green' polymers that can be tailored for use in plastics, rubbers and 'smart' materials in a variety of fields including medicine, transportation and manufacturing.

At Trent, Jennifer thrived on the potent combination of vibrant professors and their dynamic teaching. “The material, coupled with the professor’s enthusiasm and extensive knowledge, really made me eager to pursue more chemistry of this nature,” said Jennifer. “I gained a lot of confidence in my research abilities. I could not be happier that I chose to pursue Chemistry during my first year at Trent.”

Jennifer is an academic powerhouse, having received several scholarships and placing on the Dean’s Honour Roll throughout her career at Trent. Outside of the lab, Jennifer contributed to the Trent community through her work at the Bata Library and as co-president of Trent’s Chemistry Undergraduate Society (CHUGS). She is also proud of her work as a telefundraiser and team leader for the Trent Annual Fund. Through her activities she felt connected to Trent alumni and gained valuable leadership and communication skills needed to build relationships and co-ordinate events. “Working on campus and learning about the Trent community and what it means to give back to Trent helped me to better understand what I want to do after I am finished my schooling,” said Jennifer.

She values Trent’s small university atmosphere and is grateful for the opportunity to work closely with her professors, whose encouragement has had an instrumental role in shaping her future plans. Jennifer will delve further into silicon chemistry research this summer as she begins her Master’s degree. With her Trent degree in hand, Jennifer hopes to be a catalyst for change in today’s industrial world.
