Amanda King

Amanda King '11, B.A., Business Administration, Peterborough, ON

Amanda’s sharp business mind is a natural extension of her experience growing up within a family-run business environment. After transferring to Trent in 2011 to further develop her interests in business development and management, Amanda discovered new perspectives into the ever-changing business world. More importantly, through her studies and extra-curricular activities she learned how she herself can make a difference.

Amanda is currently employed at TD Canada Trust and is striving toward becoming a financial advisor.  Her ultimate goal is to work in a leadership role in business development or human resources. Amanda reflects on the role Trent University played in preparing her for working in business. “Both the compulsory and elective courses were really interesting and gave me a great insight into the business world,” she said. “What I have learned at Trent has helped me excel at TD and has given me the perseverance to push myself forward, wherever that may be.”

Amanda’s educational success is reflected through several awards and scholarships, including the Trent University Entrance Scholarship and the Peter Gzowski student academic awards that she received for being placed on the Dean’s list. Her participation in conferences and competitions, such as the Jeux De Commerce Central competition, sharpened valuable business skills including presentation, problem solving and leadership. As vice president of Student Affairs for the Trent Business Students’ Association (TBSA), Amanda helped to achieve the title of Most Outstanding Council for the TBSA Board and a national Club Leadership Award. Amanda claims, “You can’t beat a learning experience like that!” She is appreciative of the education and the professors that she encountered at Trent and of the legacy she is leaving behind.

“I am so proud of my school.” Amanda says. “Trent is home and knowing that what I do here can make a difference in my community or students’ lives after me is empowering.” As she navigates the business world going forward, Amanda is confident about the far-reaching impact of the Trent experience. Amanda reveals, “Trent students will always make a difference! Business isn’t just about numbers or markets; it is also about passion and drive. I’ll be making a difference by bringing that into the workplace along with all of my fellow graduates.”
