Dr. James Struthers Distinguished Research Award

The 2008 Distinguished Research Award was presented to Dr. James Struthers, Director of the Frost Centre for Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies, during the morning Convocation ceremony on Wednesday, June 4.

Since coming to Trent in 1977, Dr. James Struthers has had a significant impact on building the national and international reputation of Trent’s Canadian Studies programs, at both the undergraduate and graduate level. In recent years his research has focused on the history of policy responses to aging and long term care in Canada from the 1940s to the present.

Susan (Tui) Menzies Eminent Service Award

The 2008 Eminent Service Award was presented to Susan (Tui) Menzies, a long-serving Trent employee, during the morning Convocation ceremony on Wednesday, June 4.

A member of the University’s administrative team since 1982, Tui Menzies was the recipient of this year’s Eminent Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the life of the University.

Dr. Emilia Angelova Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching

The 2008 Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching was presented to Dr. Emilia Angelova, a professor of Philosophy at Trent, during the morning Convocation ceremony on Thursday, June 5.

Renowned for her ability to instil a "desire for learning" among her students, Dr. Emilia Angelova joined Trent’s Department of Philosophy in 2003 as an assistant professor. Prior to coming to Trent, she taught philosophy at Sofia University in Bulgaria and at the University of Toronto at Scarborough. Prof. Angelova earned a B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy from Sofia University, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto.
