Trent University’s Six-Month Employment Rate Exceeds Provincial Average

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

88 per cent of Trent grads employed six months after graduation; rate increases to 92 per cent after two years

Thursday, November 21, 2013, Peterborough

Following the release of the latest provincial government survey highlighting employment rates for university graduates, Trent University has announced that 88.52 per cent of its graduates are employed six months after graduating, exceeding the provincial average of 86.46 per cent.

In line with the provincial trend, Trent’s employment rate increased two years after graduation, rising to 92.11 per cent. The provincial average for the employment rate two years after graduation was 92.21 per cent.

"These impressive employment rates demonstrate that Trent's distinctly collaborative learning approach provides students with abilities valued by employers - critical thinking, analytical reasoning and the capacity to work in teams among them," said Dr. Steven Franklin, president and vice-chancellor. "The complexities of an interconnected, ever-changing world make these adaptable skills more important than ever."

The survey, which was conducted for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities by the independent firm CCI Research Inc., concluded that graduates of Ontario’s undergraduate university programs have higher employment rates and higher incomes than those with any other level of education. Survey results stated the average salary for university graduates in full-time employment was $49,277 two years after graduation, up from the average $42,668 earned six months after graduation. In all, 70,845 students who graduated from undergraduate programs at Ontario universities in 2010 were surveyed between November 2012 and March 2013, with 25,583 or 36.1 per cent responding.
