Trent Riverside Railjam March 24

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Enterprising business students gain valuable experience

Monday, March 19, 2012, Peterborough

The success of each annual Riverside Railjam builds on the previous year’s, and for the fourth annual event this year, the ski and snowboard competition is expecting a record turnout on the hill at Trent University’s Gzowski College on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

After careful business analysis by student coordinators in the Business Administration program, actions are taken each year to improve upon the smooth operations of the event. Last year’s chief administrator, Mr. Matt Piduti, described it by saying, “We’ve really modeled this on what we’ve learned in the business program. It is a business. You have to be professional with everything.”

Students are gaining first-hand the experience required to understand what goes into such a large event, in everything from advertising to zoning, with volunteer organization, project management and risk assessments along the way.

“Everybody is getting really stoked on the Trent Riverside Railjam,” exclaimed Wes Daubeny, the lead organizer for 2012. “We have a lot of shoveling to do, but there will be snow! We have a lot of volunteers who are dedicated to making sure this event is a great success, even if it means taking every last truckload of snow from behind the local arenas.”

The mission for the not-for-profit, student-run event is to bring together and express the exciting Canadian snow-sports culture to the University and surrounding community.

The Trent University Riverside Railjam is free to the public and all ages are welcome. There will be a small cover charge to get into the 19+ beer gardens. To see videos from previous years and a list of sponsors, visit: www.trentriversiderailjam.ca or follow “Trent Riverside Railjam” on Facebook.
