Following on the heels of his one-year anniversary as president and vice-chancellor at Trent University, Dr. Leo Groarke has been ranked number seven on the list of Peterborough’s most influential people.

The 2015 edition of the list is compiled by Peterborough This Week and ranks the 20 most influential people in the region who, through their words and actions, affect the character, development and behaviour of the Peterborough community. Dr. Groarke is mentioned for “educating himself on the region, and the relationship between the University and the place it has called home for more than 50 years” upon arriving at Trent last year. Dr. Groarke is also mentioned for his leadership in helping to secure the Trent Sport Field project and new arena.

Also included on this year’s top 20 list are several other local influencers with Trent University connections, including: the number one ranked Erica Cherney, distinguished business leader, honorary degree recipient and the first woman chair of Trent’s Board of Governors; Trent alumni Maryam Monsef and Jeff Leal; current Board of Governors member Stephen Kylie; Michael Skinner, co-chair of the Trent University Business Council and member of the Trent University Student and Entrepreneurship Centre Working Group; and Dr. Jenny Ingram, member of the Trent Centre for Aging & Society.
