Business Students' Association Hosts Fifth Annual Trent Entrepreneurship Week November 17-21

$5 Business Start-Up Challenge and Dragon Slayers' Den among activities planned by and for students

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Trent Business Students’ Association (TBSA) will host the fifth annual Trent Entrepreneurship Week, featuring business activities and challenges for students, from November 17 to November 21, 2013.

The $5 – Five Day Challenge and the Dragon Slayer's Den 90 second pitch brings out incredible teamwork, entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. Trent is pleased to welcome Fleming students to the event this year and appreciate how this is now truly a community event.

Highlights of Trent Entrepreneurship Week activities include:

$5 Challenge (Launch Monday, November 17, 5pm @ The Venue – Final Results Friday, November 21, 4pm @ The Whiskey Club)

Students participating in the $5 Challenge will compete to build a business over one week with just five dollars of seed money. Teams competing in the $5 Challenge will gather at the Venue Monday November 17, 2014 at 5 p.m., to develop their business ideas and participate in a stimulating brainstorming session.

Participants will reveal their earnings and present their businesses to a panel of judges on Friday, November 21 at 4 p.m. in The Whiskey Club. Twenty per cent of all earnings will be donated to Youth Emergency Shelter. The $5 Challenge will be judged by Professor Raymond Yip Choy, Professor Ayman El-Amir and Professor Sofie Andreou.

Dragon Slayers’ Den (Wednesday, November 19, 7-10pm)

Trent students will join with Fleming College students to compete in the Dragon Slayers’ Den. Students will have 90 seconds to present their best entrepreneurial idea to a panel of judges on Wednesday, November 19 beginning at 7 p.m. at The Venue Peterborough.

Prizes that are up for grabs for the best idea include lunch with a Dragon Slayer and tickets to the Trent Business Students’ Association Holiday event as well as cash prizes for the top 3 ideas.  The Dragon Slayers’ are; Martin Yuill-Executive Director Greater Peterborough Innovation Cluster, Dan Taylor- CEO Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation, Michael Skinner-Owner of Kawartha Entertainment Group Inc, and Catherine Owens-Owner of Owens Chiropractic.

YouInnovate projects on display

Student submissions from the YouInnovate challenge, hosted by Prof Cammie Jaquays’ Entrepreneurship class will be on display Wednesday night at the Dragon Slayers Den event. In this challenge, students were tasked with creating useful products out of ordinary items. This year’s ordinary item was a common every day water bottle.
