Philanthropy: "For the love of human kind"

National Philanthropy Day: Thank You to Our Donors and Supporters

In honour of National Philanthropy Day on November 15, Trent University would like to thank everyone in the community – at Trent, in Peterborough, and around the world – for their support.

As an institution profoundly anchored in philanthropy, Trent University has a history of giving and volunteerism that stands out among Canadian post-secondary institutions. Donors are central to accomplishing Trent’s mission. Through the generosity of our community of supporters, Trent has flourished, and, for 50 years, has challenged the way our students think about learning, helping them to succeed in the world.

“Philanthropy is looking outside of yourself to how you can share your time, your money, your resources, your ideas. Trent from its very inception is the product of philanthropy; our University has been nourished by the hopes and wishes and gifts of the community.  National Philanthropy Day is a time to celebrate this generosity,” says Julie Davis, vice president of External Relations & Advancement at Trent.

Trent’s supporters demonstrate their compassion for our students by giving generously of their time, talent and treasure.  There is no doubt, as we stride confidently into a changing and challenging future, that the generous support of alumni, faculty and staff, community and friends will be key to Trent’s success in the next 50 years and beyond.

Watch for Trent’s ‘50 Hours of Philanthropy’ running from Sunday, November 30 to Giving Tuesday on December 2. Mark your calendars and join us for the event of the year!

“I want my donation to make Trent a place where students can focus on learning—where exciting things can happen for them both in class and out.”

Beth Popham, associate professor, English Literature

“I am very grateful for awards which have provided me with the means to help further my education.  Being recognized for my hard work is encouraging and reminds me not to lose sight of my goals.”

Portia Kalun-Lonergan, BSc Biochemistry & Molecular Biology student

“The Legacy Campaign is important to me because it will provide long term funding to enable Trent to support the needs of students well into the future.”
