Trent University once again led the province overall in the primarily undergraduate category in an early release of the Maclean's University Rankings today, coming in at number one in Ontario and number six in Canada in the primarily undergraduate category, with a strong showing in the Student Support category of the survey.

Trent also ranked number one in its category for Scholarships and Bursaries in Canada and was among the top five primarily undergraduate schools for Student Services (2), Medical and Science Grants (2), Total Research Dollars (3), Awards per Full-time Faculty (3), Social Sciences and Humanities Grants (4), and Student Awards (5).

“In our fiftieth anniversary year, I am pleased that Trent University continues to be recognized for the exceptional learning environment we provide for students,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “In addition to our number one provincial ranking, the rankings demonstrate our strength in student services, research grants and financial support for students. This all demonstrates our commitment to a rich environment for learning and innovation.”

The University’s strong showing in Maclean’s follows recent positive results in both the 2014 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and Re$earch Infosource’s Canada’s Research Universities of the Year for 2014. Through NSSE, students at Trent indicated higher engagement levels and rated their educational experience as the same or higher than the average for Ontario in eight of ten categories, including student-faculty interaction, effective teaching practices and quality of interactions. In the Re$earch Infosource ranking of Canada’s Research Universities of the Year for 2014, Trent ranked fourth among primarily undergraduate universities. The University ranked number one in its category for “publication intensity” and “publication impact,” and came in second for “number of publications” by primarily undergraduate institutions. Trent also tied for first place with York University for the “highest research impact” by universities without Schools of Medicine or Engineering.
