Chemicals in the Environment: the Royal Society of Canada Romanowski Lecture at UOIT

Trent University co-presents Dr. John Giesy, Canada research chair in Environmental Toxicology, for RSC lecture and reception

Members of the media are invited to hear Dr. John Giesy tell the scientific and political story of the banning of perfluorooctane (PFOs), a very valuable chemical that was once the key ingredient in fabric protectors and stain repellants.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), in conjunction with Trent University, will welcome Dr. Giesy to UOIT’s campus on Wednesday, September 17 to present the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) Romanowski Lecture Series in Environmental Science Solutions.

Dr. Giesy is the Canada research chair in Environmental Toxicology and professor at the University of Saskatchewan and a Fellow of the RSC. In 2013 he received the Miroslaw Romanowski Medal, which is awarded each year by the RSC for significant contributions to the resolution of scientific aspects of environmental problems or for important improvements to the quality of an ecosystem in all aspects - terrestrial, atmospheric and aqueous - brought about by scientific means.

The Romanowski Lecture Series informs Canadians of recent advances in research and technology in the environmental sciences based on the lecturer’s particular knowledge and expertise.
