Recognized as a leading world authority on innovation, media, and the economic and social impact of technology, Trent University alumnus and new chancellor, Don Tapscott, has been named one of the top five business thinkers in the world by Thinkers50.

Described as the Oscars of Management Thinking, the Thinkers50 global ranking is published every two years and is the definitive guide to which thinkers and which ideas matter now. On the 2013 list, announced at a ceremony in London, England on November 11, Mr. Tapscott was named the #4 most important business thinker in the world. Previously, in 2011, he was ranked number nine on the same list.

Author and co-author of 14 widely-read books about information technology in business and society, Mr. Tapscott’s latest research explores how a new breed of global network, enabled by the internet and other technologies, offers an alternative to traditional approaches such as the United Nations or national governments as a way of addressing global problems.

Thinkers50 also presented Mr. Tapscott with the prestigious Global Solutions Award recognizing him as conducting the most significant work in the world about how to solve global problems. The Global Solutions Award was given to Mr. Tapscott for launching and leading the Global Solution Networks program based at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. The multi-million dollar program is funded primarily by large corporations and is investigating how the digital revolution enables new models of global problem solving, and governance.
