UPDATE #3 – March 4, 2010

Trent Student Activities Support Victims of Haiti Earthquake

Many Trent organizations have been moved to action in the face of the humanitarian disaster that faces Haiti. Response to the great immediate need has been strong, and clearly there will be need for ongoing support and redevelopment.

This webpage will provide announcements and updates on efforts at the University to allow the Trent community to join in addressing the crisis. If you would like to add information about your group’s activities, please e-mail information to michaelallcott@trentu.ca and mburns@trentu.ca.

Our sincere gratitude goes to the many people in the Trent community who have wisely made generous donations on-line to a registered charity such as Save the Children, the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, WorldVision, WUSC, etc. The Government of Canada will match many such donations dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $50 million. Monetary contributions allow non-governmental organizations to purchase goods in Haiti and regionally, saving valuable time and transportation costs while also helping local economic development.

Trent University student groups and organizations are coming together in support of the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, reaching out to provide many opportunities to learn more about the situation of Haiti, and to have opportunities to donate.

For now, their focus has shifted to collecting and delivering medical supplies, clothing, first aid kits, fishing supplies, and money.
