Announcement of Youth Science Month Helps Draw Attention to Local Science Fair

Tuesday, March 7, 2006, Peterborough

Science is all around us... EVERYTHING we see, hear, smell, feel, and taste is a subject of science.

The Youth Science Foundation of Canada and the Canada-Wide Science Fair 2006 Host Committee of Saguenay, Quebec recently proclaimed March as Youth Science Month in Canada.

Science is an adventure into parts unknown. This experience is an invaluable stepping stone for many who go on to pursue successful careers in science, medicine, and exploration such as astronaut and Chancellor of Trent University, Dr. Roberta Bondar.

Locally, hundreds of students from dozens of schools from Apsley to Cobourg will participate in the Peterborough Regional Science Fair at Trent University on April 11, 2006. Winners will represent our region at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Saguenay, Quebec for a week in May. What a great way to see Canada and to meet new friends from across the country.

Dedicated volunteers from parents to teachers to community leaders have given their time and expertise to nurture and support these young inquisitive minds in many ways. Our children are our future leaders. Promoting scientific exploration through our youth will help benefit our future whether it is locally or on the world stage.

Inventions come in all sizes and shapes. Those interested in seeing what creative projects our youth are excited about are encouraged to visit the local Science Fair or, better yet, volunteer their time on April 11, 2006.
