University's Contingency Plan Will Provide Substitute Transit Service for Trent Students/Employees

In the event of strike action by Transit Union Local 1320, a contingency plan organized by Trent University will see a substitute bus service provided to Trent students and employees.

If an interruption occurs, Coach Canada will provide regularly scheduled service to the West bank during weekdays and evenings.

Liftlock Coach Lines will provide service to the East bank with the exception of the following approximate two time periods:

  • 7:20 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. and
  • 2 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.

Potential Withdrawal of Service at 4 p.m., Monday September 26:

Some media reports have indicated that the Union will continue to provide service on Monday, September 26, but that service may be withdrawn at 4 p.m.   These reports are unconfirmed at this time.

If service is withdrawn on Monday at 4 p.m., there will be an unavoidable lag-time in starting the University's substitute transportation service for the same evening.

Therefore, transit users travelling to Trent on Monday from 4 p.m. on are encouraged to build additional time in their travel schedules to reach their destinations.

Special Note: The substitute transit services described above will begin only if the transit Union officially withdraws their services.

Additional Information

Each service provider will be using school buses.  Pick ups will be made at regular bus stops on route.

Every effort will be made to ensure that the substitute service follows the same scheduled service provided by normal City buses.  Given the possible scope of the interruption to regular service, riders are advised that the schedule of departure and arrival times may be interrupted.

Students and employees are advised that Trent University continues to monitor the possibility of a work interruption by Peterborough Transit workers.

When new information about the transit strike is confirmed it will be posted on the University's web site at: www.trentu.ca and on the Trent information line at 748-1234.
