Trent University hosts 35th Annual Ontario Psychology Undergraduate Thesis Conference

More than 150 undergraduate students from across the province to attend: April 29

Tuesday, April 26, 2005, Peterborough

Trent University is pleased to be hosting the 35th Annual Ontario Psychology Undergraduate Thesis Conference at Peter Gzowski College on April 29 from 8:45 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The conference, expected to be the largest ever in the 35-year history of the event, will attract more than 150 undergraduate psychology students from universities across the province. The students will make oral and poster presentations based on their fourth-year thesis work. Fifteen Trent University students will take part in the conference.

The event is open to the public and will begin with a keynote address by Dr. James Parker, Trent's associate vice-president, research, at 8:45 a.m. in Peter Gzowski College room 114. The day will continue with concurrent sessions running from 9 – 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., 1:30 – 3 p.m. and 3:30 – 5 p.m. Oral presentations will take place in lecture halls on the lower level of Peter Gzowski College and will be chaired by faculty members from Trent's Department of Psychology. Poster presentation sessions will take place in the Gzowski College foyer.

Topics to be discussed are diverse and cover a range of areas of interest within the discipline including health, cognition, development, self esteem and aging, as well as many others.

"The conference offers an incredible opportunity for students to meet their colleagues from other universities," says Dr. Rory Coughlan, conference co-organizer and Trent psychology professor. "They'll also have an opportunity to talk about their work and get an idea of what it's like to be at an academic conference."

Media representatives are invited and encouraged to attend.
