September 14, 2004

Out-of-province students attending Trent up 40 per cent

Trent University's national recruitment campaign is having a positive effect as the number of first year students from out-of-province attending Trent has increased by 40 per cent.

"This good news story is a reflection of the effectiveness of our national recruitment marketing campaign," said Susan Salusbury, Registrar for the University. "It also is a positive comment about the efforts of our recruitment officers who are working hard to promote Trent University across Canada."

Although enrollment numbers will not be confirmed until the official November 1, 2004 count date, preliminary projections indicate that approximately 2,000 new full time students will register for courses this year.

Enrollment highlights include strong demand for Trent's professional programs:

  • Trent's consecutive Bachelor of education program is filled with 227 students registered, an increase of 25 per cent from last year.

  • The Trent-Fleming Nursing program has a full enrollment of 159 students, an increase of 3 per cent.

  • The Trent-Fleming Bachelor of Science, Forensic Science (BSc.FS) four year degree program has 71 students registered. Over 525 applications were received for this new program.

Trent is experiencing an increase of 45 percent in the number of students transferring from colleges and other universities, as well as a very significant increase in registrations of students who have taken a year off from their studies before entering university.
