To Rent or Not to Rent: Everything You Need to Know Before Renting a Room in Your Home

Trent University’s Continuing Education Program is hosting an information evening on Wednesday, June 18, to help local residents learn the ins and outs of renting space to students.

With the looming double cohort of students coming to study at Trent and Fleming College in Peterborough, residents may be considering renting a portion of their home, or investing in rental properties. Let well-known legal experts Peter Lillico and Garnet Kent walk you through the promises and pitfalls of various rental ventures. They will discuss renting practices, leasing, security deposits, tenants’ rights and termination agreements. They will also provide valuable advice and guidance about rental relationships that are contested.

Chris Hunt, from Trent’s Student Services Office, will join Mr. Lillico and Mr. Kent and provide insight into today’s students and their expectations. If you are a potential landlord/landlady, this event is for you.

The cost for the seminar, which will run from 7 - 9:30 p.m., is $45, or $39 for seniors and alumni. For more information, or to reserve a space, call the Continuing Education Program office at (705) 748-1011, ext. 1304.
