Friday, May 26, 2006, Peterborough, Ontario

Trent University is pleased to announce that Grant Park High School student Christopher Ferguson-Martin has accepted a $20,000 Champlain Scholarship to attend the Peterborough, Ontario university in the upcoming academic year.

The Champlain Scholarship, valued at $20,000 over four years, is Trent University's most prestigious scholarship. It is awarded to students entering their first year of study at Trent, and recognizes exceptionally high academic achievement and promise. Only two Champlain Scholarships are awarded yearly.

"We are so pleased that Chris will be joining us at Trent in September," said Joyce Sutton, Assistant Registrar at Trent. "He is an exceptional student and athlete and we are looking forward to helping him achieve his goals."

Mr. Ferguson-Martin comes to Trent with an average in the high-nineties. Throughout his four years at Grant Park, he has always achieved high academic standing while participating in many extra-curricular activities, including being involved with the Manitoba School Improvement Program. Mr. Ferguson-Martin is also a top athlete; his primary sport is volleyball and he has led many teams to city championship titles. Through his studies at Trent he is hoping to pursue his dream job in International and Human Rights Law.

"My goal is to go beyond these borders, touching the world on an international scale," wrote Mr. Ferguson-Martin in his scholarship application. "It is my hope that I may one day have a profoundly positive effect on the world."
