Trent University Now Offers Central Site for Online Tuition and Residence Payments

Trent at the forefront in offering central e-payment service

Tuesday, August 16, 2005 – Peterborough

Trent University students now have the option of paying their tuition and residence fees online with the launch last week of e-payment.

The Financial Services department is offering the online service in partnership with pay page provider Moneris. Trent University's IT department also played an integral role in seeing the process through to completion.

According to Kevin Tait, senior manager communications at Moneris, Trent is at the forefront in offering e-payment.

"Less than one-third of universities and colleges in central and eastern Canada offer this service," he said.

VISA and MasterCard are currently accepted for payment with Verified VISA and American Express service coming soon, says Donna Hoard, manager of accounting services.

"Not only is this new service more convenient for students and parents," she said.  "Processing payments on the web will free up Financial Services staff to handle other student inquiries and ultimately reduce waiting times for students."

Ms. Hoard said e-payment will also help eliminate lengthy line-ups when students return for the fall semester.

Upon payment, the student immediately receives an on-screen receipt that can be printed as well as an email receipt confirming the transaction.

Payment takes 24 to 72 hours to process. Moneris handles all security aspects related to the service. The web pages containing credit card information are encrypted and secure.

While students have the option of paying tuition and residence fees online, the financial services department plans to expand e-payment to other types of student services in the future.

Please visit www.trentu.ca/financialservices to pay tuition or residence fees online. First installment payments are due Aug. 19 while second installment payments are due Jan. 16, 2006.
