Trent University Recognizes Academic All-Canadians

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Students who excel in academics and varsity athletics honoured

Thursday, November 25, 2004, Peterborough

A celebration in recognition of excellence in athletics and academia saw close to 40 students recognized as Academic All-Canadians this evening at Trent University. The annual awards event, hosted by the Department of Athletics and Recreation, honoured students who participate in varsity sports and achieve an academic average of 80 per cent or higher.

"Tonight these students, who reach a level of excellence in sport and scholarly accomplishment, received well-deserved recognition," says Bill Byrick, Athletics director. "Congratulations to these individuals. At an early stage in their lives, they've been able to achieve this healthy lifestyle balance and at the same time, distinguish themselves as leaders."

The annual Academic All-Canadian Awards honoured close to 40 students who participate in varsity sports and achieve an academic average of 80 per cent or higher. The Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Academic All-Canadian Awards, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Academic Achievement Award and Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) All-Academic Awards were presented at the evening event. Trent has 20 varsity teams that compete within CIS, OUA and OCAA.
