During his time here, Mr. Boyden will be holding several book signings, readings and lectures, all of which are free and open to members of the Trent community and the general public.

Joseph Boyden is the acclaimed Métis author of the novel Three Day Road, a story about two young Cree from the woods of Northern Ontario who enlist in the Great War. The novel, Mr. Boyden's first, has been nominated for the Governor General's Award and is a contender on the upcoming edition of CBC's "Canada Reads". The novel has also recently been published in translation in thirteen countries.

Currently, Mr. Boyden is a teacher of creative writing at the University of New Orleans and has written articles for Maclean's about the devastation of hurricane Katrina. He has been living in Toronto temporarily while the clean-up continues in New Orleans.

Aside from his successful first novel, Mr. Boyden has also written several short stories and essays that have appeared in the Globe and Mail, Toronto Life, and Canadian Geographic. His short story collection, Born Without a Tooth, was short listed for the Upper Canada Writer's Craft Award.

Mr. Boyden comes to Trent as both the Margaret Laurence Writer in Residence Fellow, sponsored by the Department of English Literature and the Canadian Studies Program, as well as the Northern Chair Lecturer, sponsored by the Frost Centre for Canadian Studies and Native Studies.
