Continuing Education Program to Host Writing Contest

Short Fiction Contest to Launch new Creative Writing Certificate Program

Sharpen your pencils and put on your writing cap, the Continuing Education program at Trent University is hosting a Literary Short Fiction Writing Contest. The contest coincides with the launch of Continuing Education's new Certificate Program in Creative Writing.

Jonathan Bennett, a novelist, short story writer and poet, and Michelle Berry, also an author of short stories and novels and a book reviewer for the Globe and Mail, will judge the entries. Both Mr. Bennett and Ms. Berry are instructors in Trent University's Certificate Program in Creative Writing.

The winner will be admitted to the Creative Writing Certificate Program and will be enrolled, at no cost, in the course Reading Like a Writer instructed by Charles Foran. The winning story will be published in the Peterborough Examiner.

There are no restrictions on subject matter or approach. Submissions must be no longer than 1,250 words. Cost to enter is $20 and $10 for a second entry by the same author. There is a maximum of two entries per person. Entries must be received no later than Monday, October 3, 2005 and will not be returned.

Faxed or e-mailed entries will not be accepted. Submissions should be mailed to:
