Artificial Turf Being Laid at New Athletics Field

A bright strip of vibrant green can be seen in the midst of what, for the past several months, has been a busy construction site at Trent University's athletics field. This first section of turf, a rubber infill artificial grass surface, was laid on Wednesday, July 6 - and a full field of green will quickly follow.

The application of the turf follows the removal of top soil from the west bank of Trent's campus to the east bank. Final landscaping and fencing will be completed in August before the beginning of the academic year.

The Phase 1 upgrade to the athletic facilities is a result of a partnership between students and administration, in which the student body voted in 2004 to provide financial support of a master plan to improve athletic facilities at Trent.

Phase one of the athletics project includes construction of a stadium with artificial turf, and lighting.
