Kudos to the Trent Dragon Boaters!

For the third consecutive year, a Trent University dragon boat team under the leadership of Christine Diaz, took part in Peterborough's Dragon Boat Festival on June 18. The team, 'Stroke On Trent,' was made up of students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends.

"Every one of us is paddling for the same reason," says Ms. Diaz. "For fun, and for those women in our lives – friends, family and colleagues - who are affected by breast cancer."

The team's timing is improving every year, she adds, and plans are already afloat for participation in next year's festival. Funds raised support the Breast Assessment Centre at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, and this year's preliminary total is greater than $113,000.

"We are very grateful to the organizing committee for allowing us the opportunity to participate and for the opportunity to contribute," says Ms. Diaz.

Stroke On Trent's participation in the festival is yet another example of Trent community members' generosity and spirit. Congratulations paddlers!
