Hundreds heartily welcomed to Trent

Hundreds of prospective students and their families received a hearty welcome to Trent University today, as they attend the daylong March Break Open House. The event kicked off with an Information Forum and Academic Fair in the Athletics Complex, where prospective students learned about their academic options and had an opportunity to speak to faculty and staff members.

The event was officially launched with opening remarks from President Bonnie Patterson, Professor John Wadland and Trent University student Graham Parke. All of the speakers offered a warm welcome and took the opportunity to discuss Trent's special sense of community.

"Welcome," said Mr. Parke. "Those aren't just hollow words - you are going to be made to feel welcome today and if you show up as a student in September, you will be made to feel welcome then."

He discussed the array of academic and extracurricular opportunities offered at Trent as well the chance to explore interests you never knew you had. Mr. Parke came to Trent from Nova Scotia, never having visited the campus and encouraged prospective students to explore and ask questions.

Tours of campus took place throughout the day, along with lunch in Champlain College and the Clubs and Groups Fair at Gzowski College. The late morning and afternoon brought opportunities to attend specific information sessions on programs and services, including Education, Forensic Science, and Nursing, as well as Housing and Financial Aid, and the Trent International Program. A second Open House will take place March 16, 2005 and those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to liaison@trentu.ca or 748-1332. The day will again kick off with the Information Forum and Academic Fair in the Athletics Complex at 9:30 a.m.

Guided Walking Tours of Trent University's campus will also be offered on March Break Tour Day, to take place March 18, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tours will depart from Wenjack Theatre in Otonabee College. Those planning to attend the Tour Day are asked to RSVP to liaison@trentu.ca or 748-1332.
