Trent's Humanities Researchers present "Good Girls and Adventurers, Tourists and Nihilism"

Humanities Research Day: December 10

Trent University's tenth annual Humanities Research Day will see 10 faculty members discuss their passions on a wide range of topics to include drama, female identity and the question of nihilism, on December 10 from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Traill College Lecture Hall.

Members of the public are invited to attend all or part of the day; there is no charge for admission. In each of four one-hour sessions, two or three faculty members and a moderator will discuss their research. Sessions are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. with coffee breaks at 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. and lunch (cost: $7 in advance) at noon.

"The notion of the day is to show off what kind of work is being done at Trent in the Humanities," says Dr. Michael Peterman, principal, Traill College, adding this year's researchers come from disciplines including English, Classics, Modern Languages, Education, Canadian Studies, History and Philosophy.

"We've developed an audience over the years - a lot of people find it exciting to hear about so many different subjects - non-stop. The Humanities Research Day showcases a wide range of research; sometimes you put things together and they make odd bedfellows, but that's okay."

Last year more than 100 people attended Humanities Research Day, which is sponsored by Catharine Parr Traill College, the Office of the President, the Office of the Dean of Arts and Science, and the Office of Research and Graduate Studies.
