Summer job and volunteer fair a huge success

Over 300 students met with employers and not-for-profit organizations at the Summer Job and Volunteer Fair held yesterday in the Great Hall.

"This was a huge success," says Kristi Kerford, Career Counselor with the University’s Career Centre. "The turnout by everyone – students, employers and volunteer agencies - was outstanding."

This fair, which was organized by the Career Centre, was the first of its kind for the University.

"The Career Centre is usually involved with fairs that are focused on giving exposure to full-time opportunities to students," says Ms. Kerford. "This fair really was to help students find a way to gain important work experience through summer jobs and volunteer opportunities."

Available opportunities for students ranged from camp counseling and tree planting to nursing intern placements and instructing fitness classes.

Students who missed the fair are encouraged to visit the Career Centre Web site at www.trentu.ca/careers or drop into the Centre, located in room 204 of Champlain College, for information about fair participants.
