Spice it up: Learn to cook Indian curry

The Indian Subcontinent Students group at Trent is hosting a "Spicing for Charity" night on Friday, November 29, from 7 - 9 p.m.

Curry Village chef Shafiqur Rahman will lead a cooking demonstration, and all proceeds from the event will go to the Peterborough Food Bank. As well, the history of Ramadan and the importance of fasting will be explained.

The menu for the evening, which features a buffet dinner, is chicken tandoor (chicken marinated in a special herb & spice yogurt for 24 hours and then cooked in a clay oven fired by hardwood charcoal), aloo ghobi (potato and cauliflower with tomato and onions, flavoured with fenugreek leaves), mixed vegetable curry, channa curry (chick peas with tomato and onions, garnished with coriander leaves), palao rice (the most aromatic or rices that comes from Punjab, India, fried in clarified butter with mild spices and herbs, flavoured with rose water and garnished with fried onions), nan bread and kheer (a very special Indian dessert made from rice and milk).

The event will take place at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid Street, and the cost is $8 for Trent students and $12 for non-students. Children seven and under are admitted free.

Tickets are limited, and this promises to be a fantastic evening. You can purchase tickets in advance at the Bata Library foyer from noon - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27 and Thursday, November 28.
