Shinerama and United Way campaigns achieve records at Trent

Shinerama

Loosing her hair was worth it, says third year student Catherine Dickinson, campaign director of Shinerama 2000. She pledged to shave her head if Trent could raise this year's goal of $22,000 in support of cystic fibrosis. The campaign wrapped up in late December with a final total of $21, 556.12.

This is the third year that Shinerama has been a university-wide event at Trent. Last year the campaign raised $19, 500.

United Way

The 2000 United Way campaign surpassed a goal of $51,000 to raise over $53,000, more than all previous Trent fund-raising totals.

Campaign co-chair Tony Storey said he feels that increasing generosity contributed to the success of the campaign. "We've seen growth in the average donation. Those who are giving are being more generous. I would particularly like to acknowledge our retirees, who as a group contributed over $5,000."

Storey also acknowledged all the volunteers whose enthusiasm and commitment ensured this year's success. In particular, Sybil Nunn-Thorn, campaign coordinator, was instrumental in keeping the campaign organized.
