Beyond Our Walls A committee of volunteers and Trent faculty and staff headed by communications specialist Ana Lopes, wife of Trent alumnus and Campaign Chair Don Tapscott '66 has chosen the name "Beyond Our Walls" to reflect the outward-looking emphasis of Trent's academic programs and research activities and of the projects in the campaign. Says Lopes, "So many of the projects in the campaign are about extending Trent's reach "Beyond Our Walls" to the Peterborough community, the surrounding region, across Canada and around the world. The two-sided tree logo (designed by Peterborough native Lawrence Finn) reflects a balance between the old and the new, between our traditions and our future, between the humanities and the sciences, between people and technology. It reflects an institution that is alive, building on its strengths for the long term". Special thanks go to Gerry Bramm '72, Trent alumnus and market research specialist who lead focus groups for the campaign. As well, the Beyond Our Walls Campaign wishes to thank all those alumni, faculty, staff, and students and other friends who participated in focus groups, brainstorming sessions and other consultations which lead to selection of the campaign name and logo. The Beyond Our Walls Campaign continues to quietly solicit major contributors in Peterborough, Toronto and across Canada in preparation for public launch of the campaign in October 1999, coinciding with Trent's 35th anniversary celebrations. As of this writing, the campaign has received commitments of over $7 million toward the campaign's $17 million objective, including $5.4 million raised for Trent's student aid endowment and over $530,000 for renovations to the Otonabee College Academic Build ing.
