The term "coming home to Trent," has never meant quite so much to me as it does right now. My husband Bryan '68 and I are very excited to announce that we will be moving into Champlain College as Alumni in Residence this coming Fall! We are really looking forward to living on campus and being around the students again after all these years. I will be working very hard on AIMS (Alumni Involved in Mentoring Students), the unique mentoring program offered by Alumni to graduating students. Please take time to visit the Alumni Web site at http://www.trentu.ca /alumni/mentoring.html and consider signing up for this very worthwhile and interesting challenge. Spend as much, or as little time as you have available in helping out with this service. If you don't have much time, then perhaps you would be willing to speak on the phone with a student interested in your particular career. If you have more time available, maybe you could help with the resources a student might need to get started or be willing to offer advice on their particular career path. I believe that this program is very much in keeping with the way that Trent has always treated its students with personal support, and as individuals. The success of this program will depend on you. I hope that you will rise to the challenge.

Spring is just around the corner and, in keeping with this rebirth, the Trent University Alumni Web site has a new face! Many thanks to council members Roy O'Brien and Steve Accette, committee members Michael Young and John Collinson and especially to Web master Maureen Wideman for the many hours of work they put in to make this a very user friendly, interactive site, loaded with information about Alumni activities. Visit the site at http://www.trentu.ca/alumni and please leave your e-mail address with us. The mailing costs have become increasingly burdensome so if everyone who has e-mail access would kindly give us that information, it would cut down on these costs considerably. Rest assured that TrenT Magazine will still be mailed to you, but invitations to events and so forth would arrive by e-mail. If everyone pulls together so that we can get a comprehensive e-mail list of Alumni, it would go far to relieve the Alumni budget of unnecessary cost.

Trent will be hosting it's first Career Fair on Friday, October 15, followed by an Open House on Saturday, October 16. We are very proud that some of our Alumni will be taking part in this exciting event. It is still in the planning stages, but we are hoping that four Alumni will be speaking about different types of careers that are available to students with a Liberal Arts and Sciences degree in the various disciplines. They would then be available for an informal discussion period following the lecture. I believe that it is important for students to see the value of a Trent education and the wide range of options it affords. Our Alumni are our very best ambassadors and it is gratifying to see the success that they have achieved in their lives after leaving Trent.

Finally, I would like to remind you of the annual Alumni Special StudentProjects Golf Tournament to be held on Saturday, September 18, at the beautiful Port Hope Golf and Country Club. This is a great day of fun and fellowship. Your $50.00 entry fee includes a wonderful dinner in the beautiful Club House and a tax receipt of approximately $15.00 for support of the Alumni SpecialProjects Fund. Register alone and you will be set up in a foursome, or grab one, two or three friends and your golf clubs and come on down! There is limited space so book early by contacting the Alumni Office at 748-1573, (800)267-5774 or e-mail alumni@trentu.ca. Thank you for your continued support. See you there!
