Volunteers
The SO is connected to Trent’s Co-Curricular Record for volunteer opportunities. This means if you want to volunteer with us, we will help you build your resume!
Every year we recruit volunteers to help with specific events or outreach such as:
Move-In Day: Every year Trent welcomes hundreds of new students to residence. These students come from across the world and many will not know how to recycle and compost efficiently at Trent. A group of volunteers stand at the waste stations during move-in, leading by example and introducing students and their families to Trent’s concern for the environment by making it front and center on day one!
O-Week: Similar to move-in day, O-Week is one of our first opportunities to demonstrate to students how we do things at Trent. Whether it is volunteering at an event or providing compost education at the Varsity BBQ; opportunities for introducing new students to “Trent Green” is only limited by the number of volunteers.
Waste Diversion Education: Students can also volunteer throughout the year to help others learn how to use our diversion systems most effectively. This might include promotion of programs such as lug-a-mug or the use of ecoTrays to avoid waste altogether. It could include helping students take their waste diversion to the next level by introducing them to “deep diversion” where we go one-step further to recycle things that you cannot just put in the blue box.
Social Media - The SO is always looking for help with our social media. We are planning to host a "Twitter Bee" this year for volunteers to get together and brainstorm fun posts! If you have a flare for making fun engaging posts let us know!
Throughout the year, there may be other opportunities or you may have thoughts on a project or outreach you would like to do with the SO. Reach out! We are always happy to support students in their development through volunteerism. Get in touch with the SO today!
