Waste Diversion

Trent University is a clear leader in recovering valuable materials from the waste stream through effective waste management. Waste Diversion - Trent is required under Ontario Regulations 102/94 and 103/94 to perform an annual waste audit and use that information to develop strategies to improve waste reduction and diversion on campus.  Audits estimate the campus performance of reduction and diversion systems using samples of waste and collection data.  Trent's audits demonstrate a diversion rate typically between 70-80%.  Please see our most recent audit here.

Trent offers a comprehensive, campus-wide recycling system paired with a well-developed composting program.

The Sustainability Office supports the efforts of Facilities through annual education efforts, during orientation week, throughout the year and by managing the annual audits.
