Food Services
Trent Food Services is continuously looking for opportunities to advance sustainability practices. Trent offers food services in a number of ways to suit most students. The Seasoned Spoon Cafe is a primarily organic cafe that prioritizes local food, including food grown on the ESC green roof and in partnership with the Trent Vegetable Gardens. Trent's Ceilie Pub ensures that Ontario beer and local burgers on local bread are readily available. We are also lucky to have the Planet Bakery; a local, sustainable eatery provide food services in our Athletics Complex.
For the larger cafeterias, Trent had a stated intent of offering the most sustainable university-scale food service delivery in the country when we set out to find a new food service provider. Since then, we have seen a campus partnership with the Trent Market Gardens to offer campus grown food in our cafeterias. We have consistently exceeded our targets for local food sourcing. Efforts to decrease waste by increasing the use of travel mugs on campus saw a 15% improvement. We have seen the elimination of polystyrene (often called by the brand name Styrofoam) take-out containers and the phase out of plastic straws. As well, Trent has managed to establish the most successful reusable take-out tray program in the country. For more information on Food Services, please visit their section.
