The Maps, Data and Government Information Centre (MaDGIC) iinvites you to attend the 'Working with Data in R' workshop.

Date: Wednesday February 15, 2023
Time: 10:00 - 11:50 am
Location: Data Visualization Lab (BL 402)
Capacity: 11 participants
Please send all questions to madgichelp@trentu.ca

This workshop will teach you to load, view, manipulate, and export data in R or RStudio. We will explore how to import and export common file types; text (.txt), comma-separated values (.csv), and Excel workbooks (.xlsx). Data manipulation procedures will include combining different data sets, sub-setting and re-arranging rows and columns, creating new columns, and altering existing columns of datasets. Students will learn data manipulation through dplyr, a powerful R packages to manage and reformat datasets. This workshop will be useful for those who have some experience in R and would like to become proficient with new tools and packages. The workshop is hands-on, such that participants will follow along with the instructor to complete R code.

Participants who wish to use their personal computers will need to install R.  R is the core program and programming language and therefore must be installed first (https://cran.r-project.org/). RStudio Desktop provides a more friendly programming environment and may be used in conjunction with R (https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/). Otherwise, R and RStudio are available on the Data Visualization Lab (BL 402) computers.
