$50,000 Raised at 14th Annual President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament in Support of Trent University Varsity Athletes
In partnership with title sponsor Ameresco Canada, golfers, sponsors and varsity student-athletes raised $50,000 in support of Trent University varsity athletes at the 14th annual President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament held June 28, 2018 at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club.
“To see varsity student-athletes come together alongside business and community leaders is wonderful. Once again, their hard work and leadership has allowed us to continue raising the funds that help support our Trent Excalibur student-athletes,” said Deborah Bright-Brundle, director, Athletics & Recreation for Trent University. “I would like to thank all of our sponsors, guests, and participants who supported the 14th Annual President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament.”
All proceeds from the annual President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament go towards supporting the varsity program at Trent University and Excalibur Green & White Scholarships. These awards are designed to assist student athletes with a record of outstanding academic and athletic performance and demonstrated financial need.
Emceeing the day was Excalibur women’s rowing varsity student-athlete Abigail Adair. Ms. Adair is a recent winner of the prestigious Arthur Cup which is awarded to the most well-rounded student-athletes who have shown excellence with both their athletic and academic endeavors. The keynote guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Mohamed Yusuf. Mr. Yusuf is the captain of the men’s varsity rugby team and a 2017-2018 OUA-All Star.
In total, 60 golfers participated in this year’s tournament, including P.S.B Wilson, Trent University’s founding athletics director; Allan Seabrooke, chief administrative officer for the City of Peterborough; Dr. Jacqueline Muldoon, provost and vice-president academic, and Connie Bonello, a member of the Trent Board of Governors. The tournament was a shotgun scramble format that included contests throughout the day, which were coordinated by some of Trent’s student varsity athletes.
The 2018 Winning Foursome title went to the team from tournament sponsors LLF Lawyers, comprised of Peter Lawless, Andrew Allison, Todd Miller, and Dave Dunlop. Other winners, included Closest-to-the-Pin, Jean Blondin and Lucy Huynh and Longest Drive winners, Tony Brundle and Julie Davis.
Congratulations and thanks go out to everyone who participated, with special appreciation to the many generous sponsors who helped make this year’s event such a success.
