Criminal Records Check

A criminal record check including a vulnerable sector screen must be completed and submitted to Synergy Gateway on a yearly basis.

Students should contact the police service in the area in which they reside to obtain a police check. Most detachments will require a verification letter indicating that you are a student. You can request a verification letter by contacting our main nursing office at nursing@trentu.ca or 705-748-1099. In your request, please provide your full name and date of birth.

For students residing within the city limits of Peterborough while attending Trent University (including students in residence), the Peterborough Police Service will hold two on-campus days in the Fall semester when students can request a criminal record check and vulnerable sector screen.  See below for details.

For students residing in Toronto and attending the George Brown Waterfront campus, please see below.

A Toronto Police Check requires an application form.  In order to receive the police check form, you MUST:

  1. Pick-up in person from Cindy Whalen at the Peterborough Campus or Dianne Diniz at the George Brown Campus. In order to receive the police check form, you MUST show two pieces of government issued photo ID at the time of pick-up.
  2. The Toronto Police detachment will only accept a certified cheque or money order, made payable to "Toronto Police Service".  The amount is $20.00 (this includes taxes).
  3. Once you have completed the application form, and have your money order/certified cheque ready, YOU can mail the application form yourself, to the address listed on the top right hand side of the police check form.   The form can also be hand delivered to the detachment.  Please note that there is a drop box at the station, you are NOT to go to the police check department, you are to use the drop box or mail the application form to them.
