Appointments
Associate Deans
Jim Sutcliffe, former chair of the Biology Department, and
Elizabeth (Beth) Popham, an associate professor in the Department of
English Literature have been named Associate Deans.
Jim
Sutcliffe is Associate Dean of Science for a three-year-term, effective
July 1, 1998. Beth Popham is on sabbatical during the fall term 1998.
Murray Genoe is Acting Associate Dean of Arts and Science and Principal
of Julian Blackburn College, effective Aug. 1, 1998 to June 30, 1999.
Beth Popham will assume that role for a three-year-term beginning July
1, 1999.
Watershed Centre Director
Leon Carl has been appointed first director of the Watershed
Science Centre, a new joint Trent-Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR)-Sir
Sandford Fleming College research institute based at Trent. The appointment
is for two years at half time.
Carl,
a conjunct professor at Trent and research scientist with the MNR working
on watershed science issues in southern Ontario, is an adjunct professor,
University of Toronto, and Research Associate, University of Guelph.
He was previously a co-ordinator, Inland Lakes Research, and Director,
Harkness Fisheries Laboratory, MNR and Salmonid Management Co-ordinator
with the Alberta Fish and Wildlife Division, Fisheries Branch, Edmonton,
Alberta.
Carl
will remain a Ministry of Natural Resources employee. Since his summer
appointment, Carl has met with several Trent faculty about the direction
of the centre and opportunities for research and policy development.
Carl's
appointment was announced at Senate's Sept. 22 meeting by Dean Paul
Healy who said that it is hoped the Watershed Science Centre will help
to create increased research collaboration opportunities among Trent,
MNR and SSFC in watershed science, for both faculty and students. The
new office for the Watershed Science Centre is in the Science Complex,
SC 102.
