Trent University is proud to announce that Catherine Bucknam is the RILEY'S JUNCTION Female Athlete of the Week for the week of September 20. Catherine played the 8 position for the Trent Rugby team on September 20 against Brock University. Catherine was named an OUA All-Star last season. Catherine hails from Brampton, Ontario and is a 3rd year Pyschology student. Trent Women's Rugby Team VictoriousThe Trent University Women's Rugby team earned their first win of the OUA season, Wednesday, September, 22. Trent defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks by a score of 10-8, in a tightly fought rematch of last season's quarter-final playoff match. Laurier opened the scoring early as Melissa Pateiak scored an early try, but missed the conversion. Trent countered with a try of their own as rookie Sarah Sabotka forced way in for five. Laurier added a boot point to go up 8-5 at the half. With just minutes remaining in the contest veteran, Andrea DeFrancesco barreled past the Laurier defense for the winning try. "Our girls really earned this one, they wore their heart on their sleeves," said Head Coach Nancy Marcotte. "We've been telling them all year how good they can be. Now we just have to ride this momentum into the weekend." With the win Trent improves to 1-1, and travels to McMaster, Sunday, September, 26. Trent University is proud to announce that Matt Gardner is the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Male Athlete of the Week for the week of September 20. Matt is a member of the Trent Soccer team and plays the center fullback position. Matt scored his first goal of the OUA season against Carleton University, September 18. Matt hails from Whitby, Ontario and is a 2nd year History student.
