|||
The Trent University Women's Rugby team traveled to Ottawa for an exhibition series with the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, September 4 and the Carleton Ravens on Sunday, September 5. After being eliminated from the OUA playoffs in the quarter-finals last season by Wilfrid Laurier, Trent is expecting a strong season from this young developing team. In the first game of the weekend, Trent battled a tough Ottawa team to a 5-5 draw. Scoring the lone try for the Excalibur was rookie standout Charlotte Kloosterman, who was playing in the 8 spot. "Charlotte is a tremendous talent. We're very excited about adding a dynamic player like Charlotte to our squad," said Trent's Assistant Coach Craig Harris. In Sunday's game versus the Ravens, Trent came away with a 5-0 victory as 2nd year winger Jen Little scored the game's lone try. "We're very excited about the weekend results. The ladies have been working hard in training camp, and we're really starting to come together now. We got to play at a great facility and face some top opposition to help prepare us for the season," added coach Harris. Trent will open the regular season September 18th against Brock.
Trent Soccer finalizing RosterThe Trent University Women's Soccer program completed their preseason camp, and prepared for an exhibition game against Sir Sandford Fleming College, Thursday September 9 at East Gate Field. Training camp for the soccer team opened Monday August 30. Last year's leading scorer Meg Watters is back and will be looking to help the Excalibur improve on last season's record. "We've worked hard for the past 2 weeks and are getting set for the season," said Assistant Coach Willie Andreoli. "We're optimistic about this season, and we're looking forward to seeing how our team plays as a unit against Fleming." Trent opened the regular season September 11 against the Royal Military College in Kingston. Posted September 13, 2004
