Trent Volleyball Team Drops to 3rd with Loss

The Trent Excalibur volleyball team traveled to Belleville, Wednesday, November 26, to play the Loyalist Lancers in a battle for 2nd place in the OCAA East division. Loyalist jumped out to an early lead with a 25-17 first set win. "We didn't come out as hard as I would have liked." Said Coach Pete Carter. "It seems to take us awhile to get going, which is something we can't afford to do against the top teams."

Trent then stormed back winning both the 2nd (25-21) and 3rd (25-21) sets. However Loyalist took the 4th set (25-18), before outlasting Trent in the 5th set (15-11). "It was a very disappointing loss for us. Winning this game would have put us in 2nd place heading into the (Christmas) break."

In the 4th set with Trent up 2-1 in the match, the Excalibur held a 4pt lead for much of the game. "It's frustrating because we're as talented or more talented than any team in the league, but we're lacking the ability to put teams away when they're down right now, it's a mental block we're going to have to overcome."

Trent enters the holiday break in 3rd place, with the 1st place team receiving an automatic bid to the OCAA playoff tournament. Meanwhile the 2nd and 3rd place teams will cross over for a one game playoff for the right to make the year end tournament. Trent will host Loyalist at home January 7th for another chance at 2nd place.
