Trent Athletes of the Week

Trent University is proud to announce that Scott Farrow is the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Male Athlete of the Week, for the week of November 10 - November 16. Scott finished in 2nd place in the 50m fly, at the OUA Divisional Swim Championships Saturday, November 15. Scott's time of 25.75 sec. qualifies him for the CIS championships as well as the Senior National championships. Scott also helped Trent set a new school record in the Men's 200m free relay. Farrow hails from Missisauga, Ontario and is a 3rd year Biology student.

Trent University is proud to announce that Renee St. Germain is the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Female Athlete of the Week, for the week of November 10 - November 16. Renee was also named the OCAA female athlete of the week for this week, as she set a new OCAA single game record for service aces in a match with 11. St. Germain hails from Markham, Ontario and is a 2nd year Psychology student. Renee has also been named OCAA Female Athlete of the Week!

Cross-Country - Appleby Still Running

Trent University's Lee Appleby competed at the OTFA X-Country championships November 16 in Guelph, Ontario. Lee, competing for the Peterborough Legion, finished the 8km course in 19th place in a time of 27:33. Lee helped the Legion to a 5th place finish in the Junior Men's standings. Also competing with Lee was Derek Snider (24th), Aaron Sadler (41st), and Oleg Romanov (51st).

Swimming - Record Breaking Season Continues

The Trent Excalibur Swim team competed at the OUA Divisional Swim championships in London, Ontario this past weekend. Leading the way were Alex Babaris and Scott Farrow. Alex placed 2nd in the 100m fly, his time of 55.93 seconds is a new Trent school record, new Trent swim club record, and currently ranks him 2nd in the country. Babaris also had a 4th place finish in the 50m free with a time of 24.55 seconds. Farrow finished 9th in the 50m Free (25.11) and 2nd in the 50m fly in 25.75 seconds, Farrow's time in the fly qualifies him for both the CIS championships and the Senior National championships to be held at the end of November in Laval, Quebec. Babaris and Farrow teamed up with Alex Delory and Anthony Ferri to break the school record in the men's 200m free relay.

Leading the way on the women's side were Jessica Madder and Erin Appelman. Madder had a 5th place finish in the Women's 50m breast stroke. Her time of 37.13 seconds is a new Trent record. Appelman finished the day with a school record in the 800m Free (10:20.99), and in the 400m Free (5:04.22). Appelman and Madder then teamed up with Julie Cartwright and Dana Gordon to break the school record in the 200m medley relay, with a time of 2:16:09.

Many of Trent swimmers will be competing at the Senior National in Laval.

Volleyball - Trent Splits Weekend Matches

The Trent Excalibur volleyball team defeated the La Cite Coyotes Friday, November 14, by a score of 3-1 (20-25), (25-18), (25-10), (25-17). The highlight of the game was Trent's Renee St. Germain who broke the OCAA single game record for service aces with 11 aces in the match. The old record was 10.

This Trent win set up an important showdown with the first place Algonquin Thunder, the very next morning. Trent got off to a quick start in the first set with a 25-16 win. However the Excalibur dropped the contest in a 5th set overtime thriller. (25-16), (21-25), (23-25), (25-23), (15-17). "It was a very exciting game for us," said Coach Pete Carter. "I'm very excited for our girls, we had a great weekend and this (Algonquin) game shows that we can play with anyone. We're really coming along as a team, and it's going to make for a very exciting finish to the season, we've proved that we have the talent to be a first place team."

Leading the way for Trent on Saturday was Angela Dafoe with 18 points (17 kills, 1 ace), and Nicole Rodziewic with 17 points (10 kills, 4 blocks, 3 aces). Trent will host Sir Sandford Fleming on Thursday, November 20.
