Trent Athletes of the Week Trent University is proud to announce that Stephen Hart is the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Male Athlete of the Week, for the week of November 3 - November 10. Hart finished in 56th place at the CIS X-Country Championships, in Moncton, New Brunswick Saturday, November 8th. Hart is also the captain of the Men's Nordic Ski team. Hart hails from Peterborough, Ontario and is a 4th year Biology student. Trent University is proud to announce that Pam Hewitt is the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Female Athlete of the Week, for the week of November 3 - November 10. Pam finished in 8th place in the Women's Epee this past weekend at the Brock Open fencing tournament. Last year, as an exchange student, Pam competed for Albert Ludwigs Universitat, in Freiburg Germany. Hewitt hails from Barrie, Ontario and is a 4th year International Studies major. Trent Fencing The Trent Excalibur fencing team traveled to St. Catherines this past weekend, for the Brock Open. Leading the way for the Excalibur was Pam Hewitt, with an 8th place finish in the Women's Epee. Heather Edgar finished in 13th place in the Women's Sabre, meanwhile teammate Sheena McKay finished in 15th place in the Women's Sabre. Katiya Smoliy finished in 9th place in the Women's Foil. On the Men's side Dan McGin finished in 23rd place in the Men's Epee. Joe MacDonald finished in 14th place in the Men's Sabre. X-Country season ends with Hart Stephen Hart competed at the CIS X-Country championships this past weekend in Moncton, New Brunswick. Hart qualified for the event after placing 37th at the OUA championships on October 25. Competing in a field of 105 competitors, Hart crossed the finish line in 56th place, in a time of 34:54, for the 10km course. Eric Gillis, of St. Francis Xavier won the race in a time of 31:53. Hart, also an accomplished Nordic Skier at Trent, is a rookie on the x-country running team and was very pleased with his results. "I ran a very good race, it was a tough course, most of the guys in the race ran about a minute slower than they did at the OUA's, I was only about 13 seconds slower, so my improvement throughout the season showed. Competing in this race was by far the greatest experience for me to date as a varsity athlete at Trent." Hart will now switch gears as he begins to train for the Nordic Ski season. Excalibur Volleyball Report The Trent Excalibur Women's Volleyball team took part in the Fleming Invitational Saturday, November 8, at Trent University. Each team played 2 games per match in the round robin section of the tournament. In the opening match Trent tied RMC (15-25), (25-16). In the 2nd game the Excalibur finished tied with Sheridan (20-25), (25-22). In the final game of round robin play Trent lost to Loyalist (22-25), (18-25). "We were in a tough pool, and we had to play some good teams," said assistant coach Adam Ruck. "It's a good learning experience for us, and it's just going to bring us closer together for the regular season."
