Trent Excalibur Begin Volleyball Season

The Trent Excalibur Women's Volleyball team opened their season by hosting the Seneca Sting, Thursday October 16. Trent lost a very close 4 set match. Trent won the first set by a score of 25-18, but dropped the next 3 sets by a score of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-23.

"It was a good match, Seneca's a very well coached team, they've always been a top team," said Trent Coach Pete Carter. "It's just one loss, I like our team, and we're going to continue to improve and play hard.

Trent travels to Kingston to play RMC, Saturday October 25, at 2pm.

Trent Rugby Report

The Trent Excalibur Men's Rugby team traveled to the University of Toronto, Wednesday October 15. The Varsity Blues defeated the Excalibur by a score of 45-15. Scoring for Trent were Matt Bauman and Bryan Faulkner.

In the second's game, Trent defeated the Blues by a score of 10-7. Scoring the game winner for Trent was Scott Jordan. "I was very pleased with what I saw today, although we would have liked to come away with two wins. I saw a lot of development in our 2nd team. This was their first game of the year and they executed our game plan, and we came away with a win," said Coach Darrell Devine.

Trent's next game is Saturday, October 18, at Queen's at 1pm.

Trent Athletes of the Week

Trent University is proud to announce that Ken Stevens has been named the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Male Athlete of the Week for October 6– October 12. Ken is a midfielder on the Men's Soccer team. Stevens will also be honoured later this month as an Academic All-Canadian for the 2002-2003 season. Ken is in his 3rd year of a Chemical Physics/ Concurrent Education degree, and hails from Ottawa, Ontario.

Trent University is proud to announce that Betty Mukendi has been named the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Female Athlete of the Week for October 6– October 12. Betty plays the fullback position for the Trent Rugby team, and scored the lone try for the Excalibur in Thursday's quarter final playoff game. Betty is a graduate of Holy Cross Secondary School in St. Catherines, Ontario, and is currently in her 1st year of a Political Studies degree.

"Betty made an outstanding transition from the wing to the fullback position, and has consistently been one of our most dynamic players," said assistant coach Craig Harris. "She's a young player with outstanding potential, we look forward to bigger and better things from both Betty and the Rugby program as a whole."

Excalibur Soccer Report

The Trent Excalibur Women's Soccer traveled to Ottawa Saturday, October 11, to take on the 6th ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees. Trent lost the game by a score of 5-1. Scoring the lone goal for Trent was Beth Fisher.

Trent hosts McMaster October 18 at King Edward Field. Game time is 1pm.
